This keeps getting lost in the shuffle, which is a real shame. The Mermen are worshippers at the feet of the mighty Dick Dale,
surf-guitar god, and they aren't afraid to demonstrate that with all
the passion at their command. This means 74 minutes of big guitars, big
bass, really big drums, all played at speeds that remind you of a
slant-six going downhill on Laurel Canyon with gas pedal pressed flat to
the floorboard. They have laidback, floaty moments as well, along the
way, but this album is overall about adrenaline, killer waves and living
on the edge of the abyss.
