AWESOME FLOPA (repost)

Para los que no lo saben, por acá cerca, en el sur de Amèrica, hay un país que se llama Largentina.

En ese país pululan muchos artistas. La mayorìa pèsimos, algunos buenos y escasísimos excelentes.

Flopa Lestani pertenece a la crema de este último estamento.

Es la perla escondida del Río de la Plata

No esperen tags tipo: alt folk, power pop, pop, etc . Su música trasciende estas clasificaciones.

Hace canciones. Maravillosas, adictivas. Tan delicadas como poderosas

Se presentò en MVD hace unos días. Impresionante.

Emoción Homicida / La Nación Espectáculos [15/06/2008]
En los bordes, en bares pequeños y circuitos alternativos y con un público que pasa datos como contraseña, varios músicos insisten en su arte, lejos de las luces de la escena central, pero iluminados gracias a las ediciones independientes y con una clara decisión de que sea la música pero también la palabra la que brille y cante en canciones que con poco hacen mucho.
Algunos vienen transitando esos lugares desde hace rato, como Florencia Lestani, la excelente cantautora conocida como Flopa, que en su nuevo disco, Emoción homicida , vuelve a conmover. Esta vez eligió que su voz grave tuviera más compañía que en el disco anterior ( Dulce fuerte grave) , así quiso también sonidos que insinúen, que acompañen y se sumen a sus bellas canciones, que hablan de cuentas que no cierran, de habitaciones en espera, de palabras que encienden la vida y de "chicas endulzadas de suerte, van todas vestiditas de sábado". "Qué querés que haga si alumbro y hago sombra al mismo tiempo", se pregunta Flopa en "Una vez detrás de otra", y parece dar allí el mejor resumen y definición de su ser de artista.

ONE HIT WONDER

San Francisco's 4 Non Blondes burst onto the national scene with their massive, neo-hippie anthem "What's Up" from their debut Bigger, Better, Faster, More? Although they failed to recreate the single's success, the album, as a whole, is a fairly engaging mix of alternative rock, quasi-funk, and blues.

The focal point is on lead singer Linda Perry who also plays guitar and was the primary writer of the material. Perry has a powerful set of pipes akin to Johnette Napolitano, but, unfortunately, she tends to cut loose when a little more restraint would benefit the proceedings. However, "Superfly" is a feel good, funky number and "Spaceman"'s yearning lyrics are delivered over a quiet, martial drum rhythm. A solid debut that got lost in the wake of its mammoth hit.

EMF - STIGMA

Best remembered for the international smash "Unbelievable," the British dance-rock quintet EMF formed in October 1989 in Cinderford, England. All five members — vocalist James Atkin, guitarist Ian Dench, keyboardist Derry Brownson, bassist Zachary Foley, and drummer Mark Decloedt — were veterans of the local music scene before founding EMF, whose name supposedly stood for "Epsom Mad Funkers" (although it was widely speculated that the initials instead represented "Ecstasy Mind F*ckers"). Within two months of formation, the group played its first gig; after unearthing a Casio sampler and sequencer in a local thrift shop, a light techno element was added to the band's rock-oriented sound.

By the end of 1990, EMF's infectious debut single, "Unbelievable," had conquered the U.K. charts; it hit number one in the U.S. the following year. The 1991 album Schubert Dip was also successful, spawning another hit single in "Lies." (The LP also garnered considerable press when Yoko Ono objected to the group's use of a voice sample of Mark David Chapman, the murderer of John Lennon; the offending soundbite was later removed from future pressings.) In 1992, EMF returned with the EP Unexplained and the full-length effort Stigma; both releases performed badly on the charts, however, and the band effectively vanished from sight until 1995's Cha Cha Cha.

STIGMA

Although the surprisingly intense Unexplained EP gave EMF's fans some clue as to the direction the band was going to take with its next album, Stigma still took many by surprise. A claustrophobic record filled with heavy walls of guitars, effects, and dark keyboards, Stigma is about as far away as possible from the sunny dance-pop of Schubert Dip. While that album hid some darker lyrical concerns under its bubbly pop surface, Stigma is almost entirely concerned with feelings of alienation from fame, love, and friendship. Opening with the blistering "They're Here," James Atkins' voice is almost unrecognizable behind effects and sampled female backup vocals that continually appear throughout the record to great effect. The true success of the record is that the band managed to push itself into more mature musical and lyrical territory without sacrificing powerful guitar hooks and dance beats. The arabesque guitar on "Getting Through" and the techno swirls on "Blue Highs" alone beat anything on their debut, and the near-ecstatic level of energy never abates until the final track, the amazingly potent "The Light That Burns Twice as Bright...Burns Half as Long." For a fan base ready for more "Unbelievable"'s however, Stigma was far from enticing and unfortunately sold less than hoped, leading to EMF's less-than-grand return to the foray of pop on Cha Cha Cha.
